Luggage in Japan

Getting your luggage around in Japan isn't always straightforward. Here is the lowdown on getting around Japan during RWC 2019 with your belongings

Luggage on Transportation

On trains

Overhead shelves on Bullet (shinkansen) trains are about 40cm high and 60cm deep and cannot accommodate large items. According to Japan Rail regulations, each passenger may bring up to two pieces of luggage onto trains, not including smaller bags. Each piece of luggage may not weight more than 30kg and its three dimensions (length, width and depth) may not add up to more than 250cm, while its length may not exceed 200cm.

Luggage delivery

On tour you will enjoy a number of Bullet train journeys and they are a fantastic experience. When travelling on a Bullet train to a new destination we have arranged for a luggage truck to transport your suitcases to your next hotel. Your suitcases will be waiting for you by the time you check in!

On Airplanes

The luggage policy on domestic flights differs by the airlines. Most airlines allow their passengers to bring a reasonable amount of check-in and carry-on luggage for free. If your tour includes a domestic flight you will be notified of the luggage rules in advance. You will also be notified of your luggage allowance on your international flight (if booked through us).
