Canberra

A city of contrasts, where modern architecture harmonises with natural beauty.

Nestled in the heart of the Australian Capital Territory, Canberra is a city of contrasts, where modern architecture harmonises with natural beauty, and cultural treasures abound at every turn. As the purpose-built capital of Australia, Canberra exudes an air of elegance and sophistication, reflected in its meticulously planned layout and iconic landmarks. From the striking facades of Parliament House to the serene shores of Lake Burley Griffin, the city’s architectural wonders provide a backdrop for both reflection and exploration. But Canberra is more than just a political hub – it’s also a cultural mecca, home to world-class museums, galleries, and institutions that celebrate Australia’s rich heritage and diverse artistic expression. Whether you’re admiring priceless works of art at the National Gallery of Australia, delving into the nation’s history at the Australian War Memorial, or exploring the interactive exhibits at Questacon, there’s no shortage of cultural experiences to captivate and inspire.

For nature enthusiasts, Canberra offers a sanctuary of green spaces and outdoor recreation opportunities. From the picturesque trails of the Australian National Botanic Gardens to the rugged beauty of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, the city’s natural wonders invite exploration and discovery in every season.

And when it comes to dining and entertainment, Canberra’s culinary scene is a melting pot of flavors and influences, with a vibrant mix of cafes, restaurants, and bars to satisfy every palate. Whether you’re indulging in gourmet delights at the celebrated restaurants of Kingston Foreshore or sampling fresh produce at the bustling farmers’ markets, the city’s food scene is a feast for the senses.

But perhaps Canberra’s greatest allure lies in its sense of serenity and space, where wide boulevards and open parklands offer respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Whether you’re strolling through the leafy avenues of the Parliamentary Triangle or picnicking on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and savour the beauty of the moment.

Australian War Memorial

As the centre for national commemoration, the Australian War Memorial is expanding its galleries as part of a major Development Project to tell contemporary stories of Australian service and sacrifice.

Bringing together a world-class museum, a shrine and an extensive archive, it tells the stories of men and women who have served, and continue to serve our nation in war, conflict and operations. Through exhibitions, artworks, large technology objects and personal records, we share personal experiences of military service.
